God, wish I knew that! I had a printer years ago and it was so easy, you just turned off the ink indicator thing or made it appear full and the printer kept on churning out blank sheets having printed noisily all over them first. Secret messages etc.





Get a dot matrix printer - noisey but if all you want to do is print type so what? They do the job and you can squirt any ink you like in the reservoir etc.

Wireless/ethernet printing was added into Vista, but for XP, you will need to go to HP.com and download the install software which will detect the printer and get you going.

Even though you installed the scanner correctly, you would need to go in the HP folder on your start menu and click on HP Solution Center.





You will see the SCAN button on the left. If you press it, it will automatically operate your scanner. Nothing special to do from this point. Just put your document face down on the glass, select Scan from the program and the light will come on. :)





Now if you didn't install the softwre, remove the USB cable from the HP, and power it on. Insert your CD and do a fresh install. You will re-connect the USB to the HP only when the program tells you. Let it finish and REBOOT the computer.

You have done something wrong when you loaded the software because the Twain drivers are on that disc. They have to be because they are part of the scanner program.

I agree with Sewrobb. Return it as parts missing as it should come with ink or it will not work. I have never known a printer not come with ink. Even if they have only the half full ones they still come with something to get you set up and started.

You don't say the model printer. Vista doesn't play nice with many of HP's printers, especially those made before Vista came out.

Keep trying. Had the same problem on a professional network and it started to work on the 3rd attempt. Check in your printer's paper media type. If it has a setting for the type of paper that magazines are printed on then it should be fine. I would think you could try tearing a page out of a magazine and printing something over the top and see if it stays on the page. If it does then it will print it. I have the printer, PC, Broadband modem plugged into a ethernet router switch and cannot connect the desktop PC to it. I have tried manually configuring the IP (no effect) and can communicate with it via using ping in the command menu.





The problem is obviously the router switch as when I plug in the printer to the broadband modem it connects fine.

I remember the old Xerox machines - copiers and there was a wire in there that had to be replaced or cleaned every so often or would get spots on the paper. Right now I have a copier here that does the same when copying and puts spots on the paper but when it prints from the computer, it does not put the spots on the paper. The glass appears to be clean, but might have to take it out and clean it.





I don't have the technical skills to do muc more than that. But wonder if my spots and our spots could be caused by something that needs to be replaced or cleaned. I haven't seen any put color spots though, only black ones.

Go to your document that you are printing and adjust the size of the font on the document. Printers do not have a print size adjustment. They print what is in the file.





It it's a Microsoft Word document, there's a task bar at the top of the page that shows the font and the font size. Both are adjustable.

1. go to you're printer, get the ip address.. {found under network menu)





on step 2.. assuming that printer driver is already installed and is found on printers and faxes window.

If your HP AIO is wireless (wi-fi) you can try the following, and set it up via wi-fi. It did work for my old HP3310 .











Here is the solution to the problem:











My setup: (make sure you are familiar and understand what is below before doing anything...)





1. Airport Utility: (in firmware 7.3.2)





Find the IP address of your HP 3310 (for example: 10.0.1.4) + MAC address (for example: 00:15:60F:39:FF), and note them.








2. In safari:





Type http://10.0.1.4/


You should get a web page interface of the settings of your HP printer.


Select tab ';Networking';


Select: ';Wireless 802.11'; in the side menu.


Select tab ';IP Configuration';


Enter: (this is an example)


Manual IP Address: . 10.0.1.4


Manual Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0


Manual Default Gateway: 10.0.1.1 (your router)


Manual DNS Server


Manual Preferred DNS Server: 10.0.1.1 (your router)


Manual Alternate DNS Server: . . .(your modem IP, if double NAT)





Press ';Apply'; (not much should happen on the screen)





3. Turn off your printer and restart it, and check if all is OK: print and scan functions.

5. Check that all is OK: print and scan functions.





6. Update your firmware of your Airport Base Station to 7.4.2

There is a setting in the printer properties for a seperator page....you need to turn this off. I cant remember exactly where it is, but somewhere in the Printer settings. Happend to me also...........Verry annoying.

To reset your printer please follow these instructions: 鈥?Remove ALL cartridges 鈥?Turn off printer 鈥?Unplug the printer from the power source for a full 5 minutes 鈥?Reverse steps. With some HP ink jets the printer is looking for a different inkjet cartridge serial number before it will clear the ink low message. Some even keep track of the last five serial numbers so you can't reuse them.





This is a way on the part of HP to keep you from just refilling the same cartridge over and over and never buying anymore of their high priced cartridges.





Have you checked your manual or the HP website? I'm not sure about your HP printer, but I know that some Epson printers require you to hold or press buttons on the control panel in a particular order to tell it that you replaced the cartridge before the ink out message will reset.





If it just says ';ink low'; and not ';ink out'; and prints fine I would continue to use it until the cartridge runs out of ink.
I always buy / recommend HP printers so I have seen and used a lot of them. I always buy genuine HP ink - maily due to bad experiences with refills and clone cartridges.





I have found that it may save a few bucks - but you pay for it in hassle.

Whatever you do DO NOT use printable adhesive labels on your discs! I've heard of lots of problems with them. Basically, they heat up in the drive and the adhesive softens causing the disc to be off balance. You'll get read errors and perhaps the label itself jamming your drive. I have an Epson R340 that prints on discs. It does a great job and if you buy generic ink carts it's cheap to print too. The R260 is under $85.How Can I print onto a DVD disc using a HP printer??

Sorry - you can't use an HP office jet to print directly on a DVD.





Those printable DVDs are for printers that have a special rack to hold the CDs %26amp; DVDs.





What you can do is print on labels and apply them to the printable DVD. I had an Epson that printed directly on DVDs but the cost of ink was killing me. I switched to an HP and used paper labels on the printable DVDs I had. They worked fine.

You can't, only epsons can print direct to DVD. It is a feature that no HP printer has.
The only way I know to print onto a dvd is by using a lightscribe dvd drive, but I imagine there could be another way.


You may be able to download a program that will print designs and labels onto a decal that you would then peel off and place onto a dvd.

You'll have to buy the labels and print on those. I'm not sure if HP has gotten a printer in wide circulation yet that can print directly on a CD. Epson had the U.S. patent for this for a number of years. The patent just recently expired, so look for Canon and HP to fight back (Canon already does it in Europe.)

To disable the service at startup type msconfig in your run box. v Once the UI pops up select the startup tab. Once you are there you can disable EVERY one that states HP. After all you only need the printer when you click print you do not need it immediately when you start up. This should get rid of the HP utility and boost startup speed.

it would have been best if we had the model of your printer. Is it an all in one? If it is..Make sure that that card is compatible. There are labels next to the slots. Then make sure that card work on another device.. camera, memory card reader.. then if it does. You may need to do resets on your printer.





Turn off printer.


Remove power cord from back of printer and wall outlet.


Press on button for 30 sec.


Plug power cord back in.


Turn on printer.

From what I understand of HP certification is you must work for, or be associated with, a company that is an HP partner of some kind for your certifications to count. As far as the certifications go, you have to take their tests for the individual categories, printers, computers, etc.... (i.e. each printer model series like LJ9000, LJ2420, etc.. each have their own test and certification, computers will be similar). If you are well versed in general printer technology, it's not too hard to acquire these certifications, just register, take test (best to have a manual of that model to reference to) and you're done, and they do not require recertification every so many years like other certifications tend to, once you're certified on that model, you're done.





As for training goes, any good information/course on printer theory, operation and basic repair techniques for the type you want to learn (inkjet, laser, etc.) will go a long way.

Do you have another computer? if you are networked, you can share the CD drive on the other computer and access the CD that way. You can also copy the CD to a memory stick on another computer and then install from that. That kind of behavior looks and sounds like a trojan horse or virus type behavior. Definitely get a scan done ASAP. If the scan turns up nothing, go to the Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs, and remove the printer and camera software and see if that puts things back the way they were. I doubt it will, and if it does not, then I'd recommend seeking professional virus removal services.

1. Check if you properly reinserted the cartridge. Try removing and reinserting again. Be sure not to touch the circuitry and printhead of the cartridge.





2. Did you touch the copper circuitry of the cartridge? If so, you may have damaged the cartridge via static discharge. In that case, you must replace the cartridge.

you may be able to wipe the sensors with a tissue and try again . but remember this episode i only buy new i know its wastefull but you don't get these problems . you might try electronic lubricater from maplins on the sensors

You can go directly to HP.com, search for your model printer and download the printer driver. You should create a special folder on your computer just for these files and you should be all set. Have your model number written down and look online at the HP site for the drivers to your model. Download them to your computer and install them. Then you may have to restart your computer for the computer to load the drivers for your printer.

THAT IS A STRANGE ONE. I am just wondering if that CD is out of date. My guess is that with all the updates that Windows and MAC frequently send, that may have thrown things out of date. If you ever have to reload the printer driver again, download it from the manufacturer instead of relying on the CD. The printer manufacturers are really good at keeping downloadable drivers up to date. Again, I am only guessing on this issue.
