When i try to scan multiple sheets, they come out as one document. I want to be able to scan all of the sheets at the same time, but then handle each individual sheet separately. For example, i would like to put each sheet in a separate file without scanning each sheet individually. Can i do this using an hp officejet j6400 printer/ scanner?

Yes you can.
Use the PDF option and it will scan all the pages as separate pdf file.
Then you can open each one and print them separately
