I have a Dell computer and a HP printer. Is there a way to to connect the two without the installation disc?

I was just going to buy a new printer, but if there is a way that I can avoid doing that somebody please let me know.I have a Dell computer and a HP printer. Is there a way to to connect the two without the installation disc?
If it's a USB ';plug n play'; printer, then most computers have universal drivers already installed on them. Depending upon the age of your computer AND your printer the drivers needed may not be there.

Even if the driver is found on your computer, getting all the functions of your printer to work properly, trouble shooting, help, etc, you will need the software that came with the printer.

HP offers downloadable software for their printers at the web site below.I have a Dell computer and a HP printer. Is there a way to to connect the two without the installation disc?
There should be in the list of printers in the installation wizard the printer you have with the right number for the HP printer.

Go to My computor and then printers, and installation wizard for the list.

And then install.
Go to HP website and download the drivers for your printer.

You could try plug-n-play with XP and hope that the drivers are all ready on your computer, but usually they are not with printers.
Older printers have drivers that are built into windows. The make and model of the computer doesn't make any difference. Even if you had an HP computer, you still would probably need the disk just to install drivers.

If you're buying a new printer, you will likely need to install something. It's pretty much the easiest thing ever, so why not?
