WIndows Vista unable to connect to network HP printer?

Just bought a new computer with Windows Vista, when trying to connect with our network HP printer it keep promting me to install driver (though it already had been installed) even after clicking it, it say cannot connect to printer as the specific print monitor is unknown,

Can anyone help?WIndows Vista unable to connect to network HP printer?
You don't say the model printer. Vista doesn't play nice with many of HP's printers, especially those made before Vista came out.

I got around it by going to a pc that still has XP %26amp; no issues with the print function. On that pc I ';shared'; the printer. So I now print THROUGH the XP machine, since it is usually always on, it isn't an issue.

Just wait till Windows 7 is issued. More fun on the horizon.WIndows Vista unable to connect to network HP printer?
Keep trying. Had the same problem on a professional network and it started to work on the 3rd attempt. Vista is an ache with network printers and it's probably worth trawling the HP site for hints because I guarantee you won't be the first one with this problem. Two other sites worth looking at are:

try to ping the printer, if that doesnt work, then you have a firewall issue. if you can ping it, then i would try a different driver.
Go to your network and sharing settings on vista and make sure network discovery is turned on. Also make sure file and printer sharing is turned on too (on all computers on your network).
