Check in Vista's Device Manager to see if there are drivers for your printer, and it there are not you can find them on HPs website. Have you followed these instructions to a T: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw鈥?/a> ?

Windows Outreach TeamHow to install HP printer to new windows vista computer?
If it's new they have a start sheet like a poster that goes through set up step by step that came with it, and a instruction book. If not you can get them on line at the makers site normally. I also have Vista and it has a lot of generic drivers with it. So when you plug it in it hook up a driver as soon as the bell goes off and it recognizes the hardware. To avoid this you need to not hook the cable to your computer. Turn on your printer, then put in the install disk. It tells you when to hook up the cable so your computer will use the supplyed disk driver you installed rather than the one that is generic. Then wait for the software to finish installing. (You have to have the disk) if you don't have the disk you may be able to download one from the maker. If this does not help, go on-line to the free HP chat. There is a chat just for printers.
